Secretary

Board role. A non-profit director who has the role  of secretary. The Societies Act does not require non-profits to have a secretary. The roles and responsibilities of a secretary depend on the non-profit's bylaws. The model bylaws provide that the secretary is responsible for doing, or making the necessary arrangements for, the following:
(a) issuing notices of general meetings and directors’ meetings;
(b) taking minutes of general meetings and directors’ meetings;
(c) keeping the records of the Society in accordance with the Act;
(d) conducting the correspondence of the Board;
(e) filing the annual report of the Society and making any other filings with the registrar under the Act.

Secretary-Treasurer

Board role. A non-profit director who has the role of secretary-treasurer. The Societies Act does not require non-profits to have a secretary-treasurer. The roles and responsibilities of a secretary depend on the non-profit's bylaws. The model bylaws do not describe the position of secretary treasurer but the secretary-treasurer is typically responsible for the roles of both secretary and treasurer.

Social Media

Online channels. Websites and applications that let people communicate and share content such as stories and photos. Examples include applications like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  It is important that a non-profit consider how the platform/channel will use any of its posts found in its terms of service.

Societies Online

Government database. An online portal that houses the documents that the non-profit has filed with the Registry such as its Annual Report or Change of Directors.  It also records its filing history.
