Without Cause

No basis. Dismissing an employee, often where there is insufficient information to establish cause.

Worker

Performs services. A worker is someone who does work for others and gets paid for that work. A worker may be either an employee or a contractor. Workers may do  work solely for the non-profit (typically are employees) or by working for many different clients  (typically are contractors).  Employees and contractors may be treated differently but sometimes are not which can create confusion. Further, both can have employment contracts. A worker may be labeled as a contractor while in law, the worker is actually an employee. The distinction is important not only for the tax and benefit implications but also for the availability of employment standards protections.

WorkSafeBC

Government agency. WorkSafe BC is a government agency responsible for workplace safety in BC. WorkSafe BC provides coverage for employees injured on the job. This coverage may protect employers from lawsuits by those injured workers.  Non-profit employers must register with WorkSafe BC.
