General Meeting

A general meeting is when members meet to discuss topics consequential to the overall direction of the non-profit. However, general meetings are not any meeting where members are present. The meeting must have been called for the stated purpose of holding a general meeting, and the notice requirements in section 77 of the Societies Act must be met.

General meetings are usually called either an AGM (annual general meeting) or SGM (special general meeting). At general meetings, members may vote on constitution or bylaws amendments, pass special resolutions, receive financial statements, and elect directors.

Non-profits in BC must hold an Annual General Meeting at least once per calendar year, except in the first year of incorporation.
