Why It Matters
Non-profits are doing critical community work—but many face legal questions around employment, governance, privacy, contracts, and more without clear, accessible support. As we respond to a changing landscape, legal empowerment is key to our sector’s resilience.
Featuring:
Martha Rans, Legal Director at PLEO, will share how LawForNonProfits.ca is helping organizations across Canada understand and navigate their legal obligations—and why listening to the needs of Nova Scotia nonprofits is the next step.
Richard Bridge, a Nova Scotian based lawyer who has worked in charities and non-profits for over 20 years.
“We’re eager to hear from local organizations about their current needs and challenges, and to work alongside PLEO to ensure our sector has access to relevant, timely legal tools. The context is changing fast, and this conversation will help us build stronger supports.”
— Benny Welter-Nolan, IONS Executive Director
From here, PLEO and IONS will work together to co-create accessible legal education resources and supports tailored to the unique realities of nonprofits in Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. By listening to the sector first, we’re building tools that are grounded in local experience, and that can genuinely support sustainability, compliance, and impact across our region.
