Who we are: 

The Pacific Legal Education and Outreach Society (PLEO) is a non profit that operates two programs: Law for Non Profits and Artists Legal Outreach ( and Law for Non Profits provides information, education and advice to British Columbia’s 27,000 non profits. Our goal is to build comprehensive, accessible legal supports for non profit societies that will increase access to justice and legal literacy, thereby strengthening and improving the resilience of this vital sector in BC. Artists' Legal Outreach works with artists and arts organizations, offering legal resources workshops and clinics for artists across BC. 

Who you are:

We are seeking a committed law student (2nd or 3rd year, or a recent graduate) who has a keen interest in assisting non profit societies. 

We would like you to have:

  • exceptional reading, comprehension and writing skills;

  • strong oral and written communication;

  • interest or experience in managing the administrative tasks of a non profit organization;

  • the ability to work independently and in a small team environment;

  • a strong work ethic with flexible and proactive attitude;

  • strong initiative and excellent attention to detail; and

  • some familiarity with the non profit sector (e.g. past employment with a non profit, volunteer board experience, etc.)

The position: 

Time commitment will vary but will average 4-6 hours per week. The position will start as soon as possible in September and run through April.

The law student will assist in the preparation and delivery of legal education workshops, conduct background research for various projects of PLEO, contribute to the development of educational resources and the design of delivery models for education, and assist with some administrative tasks of running a non profit organization.  Particular focus will be the legal support to societies before the Civil Resolution Tribunal.  

PLEO is based in Vancouver. For the right candidate, we will consider students who are based in other locations in BC.


This is a unique position that will provide meaningful and relevant work experience for a law student, including the opportunity to make connections in the legal and non profit sectors in BC. We are seeking funding to allow a stipend for this role. There is a possibility of ongoing employment in the longer term including a potential shared articled position.
